Mental illness has been noted as a humanitarian crisis by the World Health Organization. 1948 marked the efforts of help from supporters. The Fountain House building got its name because it has a fountain located in the center of the garden. The Fountain House has reached astounding success for supporting those living with mental issues. A solid 85% of people dealing with mental illness in the U.S. are without employment.
Fountain House members are re-hospitalized 40 percent less than the general populace rate of 50 percent. Around 40 percent of the over 50,000 homeless people in New York City live with a significant mental illness.
Despite that, 99% of Fountain House participants have shelter. The success that the Fountain House has achieved over the last few decades can be credited to the established structure of operations.
